Béret is a textile concept to cover existing seating elements. Originally designed for the exhibition of the art and context program of the IVAM [Institut Valencià d'Art Modern], I was commissioned to design furniture elements of their own expression.
Given the temporality of the show, I decided to work on an outer skin for the museum’s existing seating and display elements that were found in storage. Only a quarter of cubic meters of new material was generated, cutting the costs to less than half of the production budget.
The result is a soft landscape that plays in the same scale and volume of the artworks and suggests different views on them. Starting from the idea of a soft rock for Darío Alva and Diego V. Navarro's fictitious landscape, the design features stretched gestures reminiscent of M. Reme Silvestre's fascia and the burned colors of Álvaro Porras's artworks. The exhibition was curated by Julia Castelló and Ali A. Maderuelo.
